It is hard to pin down the exact reason the two brothers would become lifelong enemies. According to one popular story, Rudolf convinced Adi that they should both file enlistment forms. However, Adi sent his form off, while Rudolf held his form back, which was later found by cleaning woman unposted. The strange thing was that Rudolf was the one drafted and Adi was ordered back to the factory to start building materials for the war effort. World War II ravaged the company and after the war Rudolf was captured by the Americans for being a Nazi, which Adi had joined the Nazi party at the same time as his brother. Rudolf was sure that Adi could get him out of jail. For 12 months Rudolf was held by the Americans and grew more angry at Adi for not persuading the Americans to free him sooner. According to Adi, “I had done all I could to free Rudolf, but the Americans would not let him go.”

Even with the disagreements, Adi and Rudolf tried to reorganize the company, but by 1948, the anger within both had them separating. Adi would reform the company and rename it using his nickname “Adi” and the first three letters of his last name “Das” to form Adidas. Rudolf would move across the river and form a competing company, which later he would name Puma.

This began a rivalry that continues today. Even though their hometown would be divided,

the clear winner of the rivalry was Adi. By 1949, Adidas was producing the first rubber spiked athletic shoes, while Puma was sticking with the older spikes. In 1954, the German football team decided to wear Adidas shoes over Puma and went on to win the World Cup. This propelled Adidas back into the world market. Soon after the win, Adidas began selling more than 200,000 pair of athletic shoes a year and Puma was left behind.

During the period between 1949 and 1954, Adi had searched for a logo that would define his company and make his shoes recognizable from afar. He found it when he designed a shoe with three strips of leather on both sides so the runners would have more support for the arch of their feet. These three strips were intended to help the runner and provide more stability to the feet, but became one of the most recognizable symbol in the world.

The company was on a roll through the 1950s and in 1960, Adi decided to introduce a line of sportswear to compliment his now famous three strip footwear. That same year at the Olympics in Rome, more than 75 percent of the athletes competing in the games wore Adidas athletic shoes to compete.

Adidas would go on to produce other sports goods and eventually lead the world in the sporting goods industry. Today, Adidas is worth more than $8.3 billion, according to the most recent financial reports.

A CANCER victim has joined a select group of stars who have had their names and faces put on specially designed Adidas trainers.

Pop stars Noel Gallagher and Ian Brown and model Kate Moss are featured in limited edition ranges of the iconic shoes.

And now Mark Allison has been been given the same honour.

Adidas made the trainers for the football daft 48 year old after his friends wrote to them and told them about his charity fundraising work.

Mark, who has raised more than since he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, said: “In the football fraternity world,

this surpasses a knighthood.

“I am so privileged, honoured and humbled. I’ll never wear them. I’m in the process of having a glass case made and I’ll keep them in that.”

Mark’s pals Bobby Gallagher and Archie Harkness approached the German sportwear firm to ask if they could

personalise a pair of their shoes for him.

Mark, from Airdrie, couldn’t believe it when he saw the Stan Smith shoes marked “Endorsed by Mark Allison”.

He said: “The effort the lads have put in to get them made is truly inspirational.

“With the celebrity trainers, a small range have been made, maybe consisting of a couple of hundred pairs, whereas I think mine are the only pair in the world.”

Mark was told he had just six months to live after being diagnosed with cancer in November 2014.

He is due to start a second round of chemotherapy next month.

Mark, who has raised through a series of “F Cancer” charity events, added: “I’m taking things one day at a time.”

timberland slippers Adidas expansion in China and US boosts third

German sportswear firm Adidas reported another strong quarter of sales and profit growth, driven by expansion in China and North America, where it has been taking market share from arch rival Nike.

Third quarter sales rose 9 per cent to 5.6bn (5bn), while net profit jumped more than a third to 526m, versus average analyst forecasts for 5.86bn and 512m respectively.

Sales of the Adidas and Reebok brands rose 28 per cent in greater China and 23 per cent in North America, but fell 17 per cent in Russia, which Adidas blamed on the “ongoing challenging consumer sentiment” and store closures.

Adidas saw double digit sales increases in its running and outdoor categories as well as at its Originals and Neo fashion labels,

but said revenues fell from soccer and basketball, mainly due to the termination of two major sponsorship deals.

Adidas and fellow German brand Puma have been gaining market share in North America as customers snap up their retro styles and lifestyle shoes instead of basketball and sports performance gear, hurting Nike and Under Armour.

Nike posted its slowest quarterly sales growth in nearly seven years in September, while Under Armour slashed 2017 sales and profit forecasts last month and reported its first year on year fall in revenue in the third quarter.

Adidas, which hiked its full year outlook in July, reiterated its forecast for 2017 currency neutral sales to rise between 17 and 19 per cent and for net income to increase at between 26 and 28 per cent.

Evans, who is currently an assistant at Oklahoma State, was identified in court papers and is among 10 people, facing federal charges in Manhattan federal court, Tuesday, Sept. (C. In one of the biggest crackdowns on the corrupting role of money in college basketball, 10 men including a top Adidas executive and four assistant coaches were charged Tuesday with using hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes to influence star athletes choice of schools, shoe sponsors, agents, even tailors.

Some of the most explosive allegations appeared to involve Louisville, one of college basketball biggest powerhouses, which is already on NCAA probation over a sex scandal.

Federal prosecutors said at least three top high school recruits were promised payments of as much as $150,000, using money supplied by Adidas, to attend two universities sponsored by the athletic shoe company. Court papers didn name the schools but contained enough details to identify them as Louisville and Miami. Attorney Joon H. Kim, adding that the defendants were blue chip prospects like coyotes and exploited them to enrich themselves.

Prosecutors said that while some of the bribe money went to athletes and their families, some went to coaches, to get them to use their influence over their potentially NBA bound players.

The coaches charged are Chuck Person of Auburn, Emanuel Richardson of Arizona, Tony Bland of Southern California and Lamont Evans of Oklahoma State. Person and Evans were suspended, and Bland was placed on administrative leave.

Bland appeared in court in Tampa, Florida, wearing handcuffs and ankle chains. He said little during a brief hearing other than to answer the judge questions and did not enter a plea.

Richardson appeared in court in Tucson, Arizona, where he was set for release on $50,000 bond. His lawyer declined to comment.

Those charged also include James Gatto, director of global sports marketing for basketball at Adidas; Rashan Michel, a maker of custom suits for some of the NBA biggest stars;

and various financial advisers and managers.

NCAA President Mark Emmert condemned the alleged misconduct, saying, hold a unique position of trust with student athletes and their families, and these bribery allegations, if true, suggest an extraordinary and despicable breach of that trust. 2015, the FBI has been investigating the influence of money on coaches and players in the NCAA. Kim noted a special FBI hotline was set up and asked anyone aware of additional corruption to come forward.

Prosecutors said the coaches took bribes to use their influence to steer players toward certain financial advisers and agents.

Most if not all of the 10 defendants were under arrest. Lawyers for Gatto and two of the coaches did not immediately respond to requests for comment. It was unclear whether Evans had an attorney.

Gatto and others are accused of funneling $100,000 to the family of a high school athlete to gain his commitment to play at Louisville and to sign with Adidas once he became a professional. Louisville and Adidas announced a 10 year, $160 million extension of their sponsorship deal over the summer.

The player name was not released, but details in the criminal complaint make it clear investigators were referring to Brian Bowen, who did not return messages seeking comment.

Louisville coach Rick Pitino said the allegations as a complete shock to me. development comes as Louisville is appealing a four year NCAA probation over a scandal involving escorts hired for players and recruits. The scandal could cost the school its 2013 national championship.

In court papers Tuesday, the FBI said it recorded a July meeting at which an assistant coach at Louisville was briefed on a plan to funnel thousands of dollars to a potential high school recruit. The participants in the meeting noted they had to be careful because Louisville was on probation.

gotta be very low key, said the coach, according to the FBI.

Investigators said agents wiretapped a call in which Gatto and another defendant discussed an unidentified coach at Miami requesting that Adidas pay as much as $150,000 to another recruit, in part to prevent him from accepting a similar offer from a rival apparel company.

Louisville interim President Gregory Postel confirmed the university has been informed it is part of the investigation and said, violations will not be tolerated. Freeh to conduct an internal investigation. Blazer, accused by the Securities and Exchange Commission of taking money from clients without permission, pleaded guilty this month to fraud and other crimes.

He admitted making payments and loans to NCAA athletes as far back as 2000 to get them to hire him.

Person, associate head coach at Auburn, was drafted by the Indiana Pacers in 1986 and played for five NBA teams over 13 seasons.

Prosecutors said Person accepted about $91,500 in bribes from Blazer last year to steer clients to him when they reached the NBA. Some payments were alleged to have been arranged by Michel, a former NBA referee turned high end clothier.

Person was quoted by prosecutors as telling one player: most important part is that you don say nothing to anybody don share with your sisters, don share with any of the teammates, that very important this is a violation of rules. But this is how the NBA players get it done. said Evans solicited at least $22,000 over the past two years, while Richardson in February was paid $20,000 in bribes, some of which he kept for himself and some of which he gave to at least one high school athlete to get him to play for Arizona.

Still, the 21 year old told the Daily News that the contract from Adidas which was reported by Yahoo! as between $3 million and $6 million per year is not finalized. He said his current sneaker endorser, Nike, still has a chance to match.Either way, Porzingis, who scored 12 points in the Knicks’ 116 98 preseason victory Saturday over the Nets, is in line to get a huge bump in income. Still on his rookie contract, Porzingis is earning about $4 million this season in salary. He is the rare European player with crossover appeal, finishing fourth last season in jersey sales despite missing the playoffs. He was the first rookie to finish in the top 5 in jersey sales since LeBron James and Carmelo Anthony in 2003.”I wasn’t really focused on getting a big (sneaker) deal during the summer, but that’s how it worked and I’m happy they see me as a European player who can not only be a player but have some effect off the court,” Porzingis told The News. “That doesn’t mean I’m a better player than Dirk Nowitzki, they just see me as somebody that’s good off the court, see me with kids and that kind of stuff. And they see that potential in me that one day I can be that good. It’s in my hands now to prove that I am what they believe I can be.”Porzingis said the offer from Adidas may lead to him having his own signature sneaker. “I still have to become bigger. But I think that’s one of the things they see in me as one of those type of players in the future and that’s what I loved about it,” he said. The Knicks were pummeled by 26 points in the preseason opener last week by Houston, and, according to point guard Brandon Jennings, were fueled by that embarrassment in Saturday’s easy victory.”After getting blown out on ESPN in the first game, we see that teams wasn’t taking preseason lightly, so we can’t either,” said Jennings. “That’s how I felt. I was definitely embarrassed, regardless if this was the first preseason or not, to get embarrassed like that on national TV, we can’t let that happen again.”Jennings, who started in place of the absent Derrick Rose (and will probably do so again Monday vs. the Wizards), recorded five assists against the Nets, including a behind the back look to Marshall Plumlee that served as the game’s top highlight.Jennings, 27, who signed a one year, $5 million deal, is starting his first full season since undergoing Achilles surgery in 2015. He said he recently dropped about 35 pounds and, “I feel fast, like my rookie year fast.”The pace we’re at right now, I love it. When I had the Achilles injury, I was 210 (pounds). Now I’m back down to 175. That’s where I want to be. It took a while but I got it down.”

The upper part of the shoeis made from 5 per cent recycled polyester and 95 per cent waste plastic taken from the waters around the Maldives, while recycled material was also used to make most of the rest of the trainer, including the heel, lining, and laces.

As well as the Parley trainers, the company is also using recycled ocean waste tomakelimited edition football kits for Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

“It’s in the hands of the creative industries to reinvent faulty materials, products, and business models. The consumer can boost the demand for change.”

Plastic floating in the world’s oceans has become an increasing problem in recent years.

A major report in January saidoceans would contain more plastic than fish by 2050 unless the world took radical action to stop rubbish leaking into the seas.

At least eight million tonnes ofplastic already ends up in the ocean every year the equivalent of a rubbish truck of waste every minute, according to the report from the World Economic Forum.

The rate ofplastic pollutionis only expected to increase as more and more plastic is used globally, especially in emerging economies with weaker waste and recycling regimes.

Finally, New Orleans, all our Bourbon Street needs have been met: Adidas has released a pair of puke and beer proof shoes. And they come in black and gold.

The only kicker here (no pun intended) is that the shoes have been designed in celebration of Munich’s annual Oktoberfest, so they’re embroidered with the German equivalent of “cheers.” Luckily, I don’t think anyone will notice after they’ve downed a Hand Grenade. It might actually start making a lot more sense at that point.

These could have come in handy back in my senior year of high school when, during one admittedly tame evening out, I made the mistake of wearing flip flops down Bourbon. As you can imagine, the cheap plastic broke on me as I was walking somewhere past The Cat’s Meow, leaving me shoeless while still blocks from my car and likely in a position to contract several undiscovered diseases.

Adolf Dassler founded Adidas in August of 1949. In 1954, Adidas soccer shoes took front stage in the Germany/Hungary match.

At that match, players wore Adidas, the first soccer shoes with removable studs. In the 1960s, Dassler began to look at manufacturing equipment for what were then considered to be fringe sports. His commitment was to enhance the performance ability of athletes in every sport. For example, Superstar 2G Steel, Midseason, and BTB Low are basketball shoes for just about anyone, while T Mac 4.5 gives everyone the feel of a champion. There are nine different styles of golf shoes available, including Z Traxion, a3 3 Stripe, and SSE Comfort Saddle, all of which feature removable spikes.

Runners love Adidas options. High mileage runners choose a3 UltraRide Leather shoes that offer full length energy management for a consistently comfortable run every time. Designed specifically to guide and drive the runner’s foot, this shoe is made with a full grain leather upper with added support provided by synthetic overlays. Tennis hacks and pros alike love Barricade III and Clima Ultimate II, “tennies” with 360 degree ventilation in their synthetic leather uppers and a sock liner that increases airflow. Lady basketball stars look for Superstar 2G. These quality shoes combine basketball styling with molded comfort and midfoot cushioning for stability and multi directional movement. Ladies Walking shoes begin with Supernova Walk, available in two color combinations. Designed for women athletes, these shoes were created for serious competition and daily training walks.
