A 41 year old man facing one count of impersonating a peace officer had his trial heard in St. John Provincial Court yesterday. But behind that one count is a couple of different stories.
Forty one year old Michael Cory Corneau says working in collections can be a ruthless gig. Corneau says he worked for a friend and car repair shop owner who would give him files of customers who owed money, and Corneau would work to get the money back.
This is Michael Cory Corneau. He’s charged with one count of Personating a Peace Officer. It’s alleged he called a woman, told her he was a Sheriff’s Officer,
and was given an order to repossess her car/or collect money. Corneau admits to making that call.
Warford says Corneau indicated he was a sheriff officer, and that he was on his way to her home to collect the car or cash. She says he indicated, was in her best interest to pay. Coincidentally,
Warford happened to be with her friend and sheriff officer of 20 years Kimberly Stockwood.
Both women testified Corneau was demanding and had raised his voice on the phone. Stockwood says Corneau was driving during the call. Corneau testified he was home drinking a beer.
