ISHPEMING TWP., MI H. Charles Brown, 82, of 1705 Ellsworth Street, Ishpeming, died peacefully with his family by his side on Wednesday, September 13, 2017 at UP Health Systems Marquette.

He was born in Ishpeming to the late Martha (Korpi) and Howard Brown in West Ishpeming, graduated from Ishpeming High School in 1955, and married Carol (Koski) Brown in 1956.

Charlie worked as a skilled carpenter and millwright through Local 2464 and then for Cleveland Cliffs Iron Company (Empire Mine) where he spent most of his career as a Plant Repairman. He retired in 1995 with 31 years of service. In addition to building and fixing things, Charlie loved to play cribbage, go to his camp on Casey Lake, cruise around in his Chevy pickup and attend Church on Sunday. Charlie was an active member of Bethel Lutheran Church, Ishpeming, Negaunee Masonic Lodge, the Ahmed Temple Shrine and Scottish Rite. He cherished his family and always said they were his biggest blessing.

He is survived by his loving wife, Carol; daughters Kim (Dale) Alanko of Marquette, and Connie (David) Kangas of Negaunee; grandsons, Erik (Anna) Alanko of Wausau, WI, Luke (Becky) Abendroth of Ishpeming, Tanner (Rachel) Alanko of Kimberly, WI and granddaughter Nicole (Keith) O of Negaunee; step grand children Shae and Brandon Kangas of Ishpeming, as well as his beloved great grandchildren Kurt and Charlotte O Finley, Gustie and Levi Alanko and step great grandson Matt Duhame. His sister Karen Brown Marietti, and sisters and brothers in law Jerry Koski, Joyce Koski, Roland (Barb) Koski, Bruce (Joni) Koski, Diane (James) Carlson, and many dear nieces, nephews and cousins also survive him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his mother and father in law, Leonard and Elsie Koski, son in law Kurt Abendroth, sisters and brothers in law Kenneth (Joyce Ann) Koski, Nancy (Ed) Crowder, Shirley (Malcolm) Nelson, and Terry Koski, and his special uncle and aunt Lawrence and Ruth Korpi.

Pallbearers will be Dale Alanko, David Kangas, Erik Alanko, Luke Abendroth, Tanner Alanko and Keith O family will greet relatives and friends from 11:00 AM 1:00 PM on Saturday, September 16, 2017 at the Bethel Lutheran Church, 333 E. Ridge St., Ishpeming. A Masonic Memorial Service will be held at Noon. Funeral services will follow at 1:00 PM with the Rev. Lauri O. Maki to officiate.

A luncheon will follow in the church hall. Internment will take place at the Ishpeming Cemetery.

The family wishes to thank the wonderful doctors, nurses and nursing support staff of UP Health Systems Bell and Marquette for the kind and compassionate care provided Charlie during his brief stay.
